Research Interests

Dr. Michael Blackhurst is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Program Coordinator for Environmental Studies in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science at the University of Pittsburgh. His research and teaching span energy systems, urban sustainability, and environmental data science, with a focus on the intersection of environmental challenges and public policy. He has contributed to water-related research including predicting lead water service line locations in the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority service area and monitoring plastic pellet (nurdle) pollution in the Ohio River Valley.
